WHAT ACTUARIAL SCIENCE REALLY IS:

Actuarial science is a profession that uses statistics and mathematics in solving potential risks which can be present or for the future for example in model construction of pension plans in insurance companies.

Who Nick Karanu  is:

Nick is an actuary who is an associate holder with IFOA  and also currently pursuing fellowship from the same institution.

He is a graduate from Kirinyaga university and also studied actuarial science in university level. Karanu is already bestowed with paramount experience from  ABSA where he did work as an actuarial analyst and credit risk actuarial analyst. He is currently based at APA insurance where he is working as an APA individual life actuarial analyst.

The scariest moment in life is always just before you start and nick was able to with stand this.

WHAT NICK HAD TO SAY

“From high school I studied hard and had a plan of being a medical practitioner but did not know what future holds and I ended up being an actuary. This made me have a secret of change and to focus all of my energy not to fight my old but to build on the new. Mostly I do not concentrate on risk though I am a risk taker but I concentrate on results because there is no risk that is too big to prevent claiming what future holds. I studied actuarial science with all the courage and with optimistic vision of one day of being a fully qualified actuary that will enable me to solve insurance and risk problems that may arise in my line of duty. The actuarial profession is not only about studying but also being able to actualize into the real life we live in. “

WHAT MANY STUDENTS DON’T KNOW ABOUT ACTUARIAL SCIENCE

“Many students don’t know that apart from graduating as an actuarial science bachelor holder one has do professional exams from institute and faculty of actuaries where I have done several papers like:

·         CM1,CM2,CS1,CS2,CB1,CB2,CB3,CP1,CP2,CP3,SP1,SP2 AND SA1.

         This made me be recognized through an award of a silver medal from Singapore world quant championships which was held in 2019.In brief that is what actuarial science is and the unknow is set to be known more in details as the world rotates around the sun."
